HOME >> About Us

Welcome to the Storage Network Lab's web site. The goal of our site is to provide our viewers with a clear and informative picture of what our lab is and how we operate. In October 2001, the College of Information Engineering of Xiangtan University started the Storage Network Lab (SNL). The SNL is a unique organization which has two distinct missions:

The SNL's first mission is internally focused on Storage Resource Management, Storage Resource Management protects your organization's data from hardware failures and other errors by storing backup and archive copies of data on offline storage. Scaling to protect hundreds of computers running a dozen OS ranging from laptops to mainframes and connected together via the internet, WANs or LANs, Storage Resource Management's centralized Web-based management, smart-data-move and store techniques and comprehensive policy-based automation all work together to minimize data protection administration costs and the impact to both computers and networks. Optional modules allow business-critical applications that must run 24x7 to utilize Storage Resource Manager’s centralized data protection with no interruption to their service. Data backup and restore, Managed data archive and retrieve, protection for 24x7 business-critical applications are our goal.

The SNL's second mission is internally focused on iSCSI, iSCSI is internet SCSI (Small Computer System Interface), a new Internet Protocol (IP)-based storage networking standard for linking data storage facilities, developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). By carrying SCSI commands over IP networks, iSCSI is used to facilitate data transfers over intranets and to manage storage over long distances. The iSCSI protocol is among the key technologies expected to help bring about rapid development of the storage area network (SAN) market, by increasing the capabilities and performance of storage data transmission. Because of the ubiquity of IP networks, iSCSI can be used to transmit data over local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), or the Internet and can enable location-independent data storage and retrieval.

We will be maintaining the information on this site regularly to assure that our site will remain up to date. Thank you for spending the time to find out more about our lab. I hope that you will find our site informative and easy to navigate. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions in regard to our lab.
